Process Post: Summer Project (June)
For my summer project, I decided to make another piece about my older brother. I wanted to display him in a pool with a floatie. I planned to make the floatie out of images of him happy and I planned to collage medical documents under the water. The idea is that his good relationships and memories (the floatie) keeps him above the surface/keeps him from drowning (in his medical complications). Additionally, I planned to use a transparent blue sheet to go over the medical documents to act like the water. By doing this, I also create another meaning, which is that outside people really have to look closely and get to know our family personally in order to see just how significant Jimmy's medical history, treatments, and care are. To begin this project, I first made a really rushed prototype because I just wanted to see how the different materials would look together. After that, I got started by creating a big circle out of cardboard and sketching out Jimmy and his surroundings.
