Art IV Summer Project Progression

I began brainstorming concepts and ideas for my summer project beginning in early June. For this project, I needed to create two pieces for my final Head and Heart project. For the "Head" piece, I had to create the artwork based on a concept I was interested in. I decided to focus on the concept of human experiences. I began exploring this concept earlier last year through experiences such as childhood and death. For this piece in particular, I decided on doing another childhood-centered piece. I made a plan to draw my brother and I with colored pencils to represent the purity and nostalgic feeling associated with childhood. To capture the purity, I colored my brother and I in a way that highlights our chest/heart with the colors fading as they became farther from our hearts. To capture the nostalgic feeling, I chose a picture of us with big smiles during a dress-up day at school as well as coloring the background a pastel, dream-like color. For the "Heart" piece, I had to create the artwork centered around my passion for either a subject, media, or concept. I chose to create a work to reflect my passion of dance. To make this piece, I decided to draw a moody, charcoal drawing of a ballet dancer's feet in pointe shoes.

The planning I did in my sketchbook.
